Nigerians Who Are Guinness World Record Breakers – The Guinness World Records has had Nigeria in its pages a few times. First, Nigeria got into the Book of World Records for having the biggest football jersey in the world.  Then, 300,000 students from the 600 public secondary schools in Lagos brushed their teeth simultaneously at different locations to defeat India who had set the previous tooth brushing record and put Nigeria on the map.

Yet, this year, three more Nigerians have put their names in the Guinness book of records, bringing the total to five people, meet them:

1. Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau

Popularly known by her stage name Kaffy, is a Nigerian dancer, choreographer, dance instructor and fitness coach. She is also the founder and owner of Imagneto Dance Company. She is best known for breaking the Guinness World Records world record for “Longest Dance Party” at the Nokia Silverbird Danceathon in 2006.

Kaffy’s dancing career took off after she went to an event to perform onstage by someone who spotted her when she used to go to the National Stadium during weekends for dance rehearsals and workouts.

In 2006, Kaffy led her dance group to break the Guinness Book of Records world record for “Longest Dance Party” after they danced for 55hours and 40minutes. She is currently a dance instructor who has developed innovative visualisation-based methods for teaching dance and dance fitness in an accelerated-learning format.

2. Chidera Anamege

Now known by his stage name Chiddy Bang is an American hip hop recording artist. Prior to its breakup, Chiddy Bang was an American hip hop duo consisting of Anamege, under the stage name Chiddy, and Noah Beresin, under the stage name Xaphoon Jones. The duo was introduced by former band member Zachary Sewall in late 2008 while the two were studying at Drexel University, in Beresin’s hometown of Philadelphia.

Anamege broke the Guinness World Record for Longest Freestyle Rap and Longest Marathon Rapping Record by freestyling for 9 hours, 18 minutes, and 22 seconds, stealing the throne from rapper M-Eighty, who originally broke the record in 2009 by rapping for 9 hours, 15 minutes and 15 seconds. Anamege had also beat Canadian rapper D.O. for Longest Marathon Rapping session, the previous record being for 8 hours and 45 minutes.

3. Obi Ajuonuma

Popularly known as DJ Obi, he broke the world record for the longest ever DJ set. He started on 22nd of June and continued until 11.30pm on 2nd July, 2016. Thereby completing  a 240-hour marathon on the decks at a Lagos cafe, smashing the previous record of 200 hours set in Dublin by a Polish DJ called Norbert Selmaj in November 2014. He reportedly set the record in honor of his father, Levi Ajuonuma, who was a TV producer, before dying in the Dana airplane crash of 2012. His record is yet to be ratified.

4. Harrison Chinedu

He emerged as the first man to travel the farthest distance while balancing a football on his head. The Cambodia-based footballer set the record after walking a total distance of 48.08km from the Redeemed Christian Church of God camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, on March 6.

An Indian soldier Naib Singh had broken the world record for travelling the farthest distance balancing a football on the head after walking a total distance of 45.64km in his country in 2014.

Guinness World Records confirmed Chinedu’s as a world record holder in a certificate sent to the Dr Rafiu Oladipo Sports Foundation, which presented Chinedu with an opportunity to make a name for himself and Nigeria.

5. Ace Comedian Gandoki (Tony Mofe Ereku)

On Saturday 1st of October put Nigeria on the world map by becoming the first Comedian to perform non-stop stand-up comedy for 42 hours and 10 mins.

He now holds the new world record for the Longest Stand-up comedy performance by an individual betting the past record of 40 hours and 8 mins. The world breaking challenge started on Thursday 29th of september by 8:00 pm at the Exclusive mansions hotel, Victoria island and climaxed at about 12:34 pm on Independence day, when he beat the previous record.
